For neurodivergent business owners

Neurodivergent business coaching

Your neurodivergence is core to the success of your business. The freedom, flexibility, and income you're aiming for comes from designing your business to suit your unique strengths and ways of working.

Why neurodivergent business coaching?

Expecting yourself to run a business the same way other people do can be draining and stressful, because your brain doesn’t work like that.

You can end up feeling like you’re just not cut out for entrepreneurship, when what’s actually needed is to do business your way.

As a neurodivergent business owner myself, I get it. I tried all the tools, set all the goals, tried to manage my time better. But I still ended up frazzled and underperforming, because I didn’t actually understand my strengths and challenges, or my best ways of working.

Once you design your business with an understanding of your neurodivergence at its core, things can feel very different.

What we work on in neurodivergent business coaching, and how it helps

I combine coaching with marketing strategy and planning, specifically for neurodivergent business owners. We focus together on the practical, financial and emotional sides of running your business, with your neurodivergent traits and experiences at the core of the process.

Neurodiversity foundations

We'll explore your unique neurodivergent profile, helping you understand your strengths, challenges and needs in a business context - before we start changing anything.

Business and marketing strategy

We review your strategy with your neurodivergence in mind, or create your ND-friendly strategy from scratch. This is where my marketing background does the heavy lifting alongside the coaching.

Better processes and organisation

We figure out ways you can get stuff done with less stress, with awareness of your executive functioning needs built in rather than bolted on afterwards.

Manageable marketing and planning

We create simple, non-overwhelming plans, and devise an approach to marketing that fits with your values - and that you can actually keep going with.

Confidence, boundaries and communication

Overcoming inner obstacles and self-criticism through a better understanding of your neurodivergence. We also look at protecting your energy and being clear on your needs, whether you tell other people about them or not.

Loads of neurodivergent people opt to run their own business. It's often a great fit for our creative minds and love of flexibility and freedom. In practice though, our differences can make it really hard to keep all the plates spinning.

Neuroaffirming coaching

My story as a neurodivergent business owner

I started my first business in 2008, as a web developer and designer. After that I moved into tech and marketing, running software development projects and eventually working as a Head of Marketing before going freelance again as a marketing consultant.

It sounds easy when I say it like that, but I was struggling behind the scenes, and it eventually led me to burn out (not long after my diagnosis of ADHD, autism and dyspraxia). I was 'doing business', but at a high cost to me personally - extra hours, heaps of masking, chronic stress.

I started practising as a business coach before my diagnosis, but it was my neurodiversity journey that changed everything for me as an entrepreneur. I received neurodiversity coaching myself, then tailored my post-graduate certificate with the University of Chester to focus on neurodiversity. I've since completed further specialised training in neurodiversity coaching, along with neuroscience and trauma-informed approaches.

My priority this time around was to create a spacious, sustainable business where I could be myself and dive deep into the things I'm passionate about.

A bit more about me

Some things to know about me

I love dancing, making art, and jumping in the sea whenever I can.

You’ll often find me cooking up a storm at home, or heading out for a long walk to decompress.

Creativity is a big part of my life, and before becoming a coach, I ran creativity retreats where we used collage and painting as tools for self-discovery.

I live in Bristol, though I’m originally from Ireland and try to get back there a couple of times a year to catch up with family.

How neurodivergent business coaching works

Coaching with me follows a clear structure, but it’s not rigid or linear. We roughly follow these stages within a session, and across the coaching progress as a whole - but we jump around them too as new insights and learning come in.

Between sessions, you’ll take actions that match your goals and capacity: sometimes small experiments, sometimes bigger steps than you thought were possible. We review what happened together so you can see what’s working, make adjustments and keep momentum.

Clarifying what you want

Setting goals can be a nightmare when you’re neurodivergent. You can’t decide, or it’s hard to believe you can actually get there because you’ve failed in the past. We take all of that into account and spend time finding out what you really want and how you can actually get there this time.

Understanding what’s been in the way

We look closely at what’s been holding you back or keeping you stuck; getting specific and realistic about the obstacles through the lens of neurodivergence. We also get clear on your neurodivergent traits and how they’re impacting you.

Creating new ways forward

During sessions we think together on your goals, and our conversations surface new insights and possibilities. Sometimes the focus is your inner world - shifting beliefs or perspectives, for example. At other times we’re designing practical steps towards your goals that feel sustainable and achievable.

Reviewing, adjusting and integrating

As you take action, we pay attention to your mind and body states. We celebrate progress, reflect on strengths, and anchor new beliefs about what’s possible. Transformation happens when we focus not just on what you got done, but on who you’re becoming in the process.

FAQs

Common questions people ask before we start working together.

I hate marketing myself, can you help me get better at this?

By understanding what's at the root of the discomfort, we can work towards overcoming it. I work with clients on how to do marketing in a way that feels authentic and easy, and doesn't involve having the 'ick' every time you talk about your work.

I am uncomfortable doing any networking, can you support me with my business?

Yes. We look at the different ways you can run your business based on your actual strengths and needs. There are usually ways to make your business work by leveraging the things you're genuinely good at, and cutting out the energy drains that don't suit you.

I've tried creating a business or marketing strategy but I don't stick with it - can you help?

Yes. A lot of conventional advice on business strategy doesn't take neurodivergence into account. We can explore the balance of having enough strategy to keep you on track, without making it a heavy or pointless thing that you end up ignoring!

Will you tell me how to grow my business?

I often work with clients to improve their marketing, their strategy or their ways of generating new business. I will support you with suggestions and ideas, but more than anything it's a space to figure out new solutions that are unique to you.

Can you give me advice or tell me what I should do?

The focus in coaching is on uncovering your own insights and ideas, because this is the real confidence-builder and the result that you keep hold of beyond the coaching process. However, particularly in neurodiversity-focused coaching, it can be valuable for me to bring in the insights and understanding that I have about neurodivergence and neuroscience in ways that directly apply to you and your goals.

Do you set homework or assignments?

Many clients like to have things to do in between sessions, so we incorporate action-planning or design 'experiments' to do. I don't tell you what to do or decide for you how much time you spend on things between sessions - it's always collaborative and based on the time and energy you have available. I do often have suggestions and ideas for things to try, but many clients have lots to do already - it's just a case of organising and prioritising those things in new ways.
